Maximilian Eugen (Count von) Attems-Gilleis (born April 3, 1859 at Schrattenthal Castle , Lower Austria, as Attems-Heiligenkreuz; † October 25, 1939 at Therasburg Castle , Lower Austria) from the Attems family, first mentioned in 1102, was the hereditary bearer of the title Reichsgraf at the imperial court in Vienna held the honorary function of kuk chamberlain and was a member of the manor house of the Austrian Reichsrat in 1917/1918 .

Life

Maximilian Attems-Heiligenkreuz was born in 1859 as the son of Anton August Graf von Attems-Heiligenkreuz, from 1890 Attems-Gilleis (1834-1891) and his wife Maria, née. Countess zu Hardegg was born on Glatz and in Machlande (1836–1906). Ad personam, like his father three years earlier, on May 7, 1893, as the owner of the former Gilleis family affide from Emperor Franz Joseph I, which came from the family of his paternal grandmother, he received the right to name and coat of arms association with the new name Attems -Gilleis .

As the owner of the Therasburg estate in the Waldviertel , Lower Austria , he extensively restored Therasburg Castle in 1893 and created the Kastanienallee, the orchard, a water supply by means of elevated tanks including a pumping station, the pond and the terrace area. The Baden anniversary exhibition was opened by Maximilian Attems-Gilleis on September 3, 1898 as host in the park of the Baden Villa Attems.

In 1901 he commissioned Ludwig Richter to build a residential and commercial building in Vienna 1. , Stallburggasse 4 near the Hofburg instead of the previous house.

In 1917, Emperor Karl I granted him the hereditary dignity of Reichsrat in the manor house as the second representative of his family in the Reichsrat alongside Edmund Attems; he was listed there as Eugen Attems-Gilleis. Furthermore, Maximilian Attems-Gilleis was co-founder and president of the Molkerei AG association.

His first marriage was to Franziska Faltis (1866–1920), daughter of the textile industrialist Johann Faltis , and his second marriage to May Hartmann (1871–1954), daughter of the royal Prussian major Julius Justus Hartmann.

Attems-Gilleis' younger brother was the Upper Austrian Provincial Government Vice-President and later State Office Director Hermann von Attems-Heiligenkreuz . His nephew was ambassador Maximilian Attems-Heiligenkreuz . His sister Franziska Xaveria (1861-1893) was married to Count Karl Lanckoroński ; the Faniteum in Vienna is reminiscent of them .
