Maximilian Brandl (born June 25, 1997 ) is a German mountain biker and German champion .

Life

Brandl comes from Sendelbach , a district of Lohr am Main in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart . In 2015 Brandl graduated from high school and began studying biology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .

Career

Brandl started cycling at RV Viktoria Wombach . For the 2015 season he switched to the Lexware mountain bike team in Kirchzarten , where he signed a three-year contract. At the Mountain Bike World Championships for juniors in 2015 in Andorra , Brandl was able to fight for World Championship silver in a gripping duel for second place in cross country ahead of Egan Bernal - the later Tour de France winner.

In 2018 the team extended the contract with Brandl for another three years. In the same year Brandl won the silver medal with the mixed relay at the 2018 Mountain Bike World Championships in Lenzerheide .

In 2019, Brandl surprisingly became the German cross country champion of the elite drivers on his home track in Wombach , although he should still have started for the U23. At the European Championships in Brno he won the bronze medal in the U23 race. At the U23 World Cup races in Les Gets and Snowshoe, he finished second and third respectively on the podium. Brandl is a member of the national team.
