Maximilian Braun (philologist)

Maximilian Braun (born August 7, 1965 - † July 7, 2015 ) was a German classical philologist .

Life

Maximilian Braun studied from 1985 to 1992 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at Corpus Christi College (Oxford) classical philology and philosophy . From 1993 to 1995 he held himself as William Abbott Oldfather research associate at the Department of the Classics of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , where he William M. Calder III in editing and commenting on the correspondence of Hermann Diels with Ulrich von Wilamowitz- Moellendorff as well as Theodor and Heinrich Gomperz supported. In 1997 he was in Munich with a thesis on the "Eumenides" of Aeschylus and the Areopagus Dr. phil. PhD .

After completing his doctorate, Braun worked from 1998 to 2001 as a research assistant in the Collaborative Research Center 537: “Institutionality and Historicity” at the Technical University of Dresden . From 2001 to 2005 he was a research assistant at the chair for Latin studies there (with Fritz-Heiner Mutschler ). In 2005 he returned to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, where he worked as an academic councilor (from 2009 senior councilor) in teaching and research. At the same time he was editor of the Gnomon magazine .

Braun dealt with Greek and Roman stage poetry, especially Attic tragedy and Roman comedy; Other research focuses were Roman rhetoric and the history of classical philology in the 19th and 20th centuries.
