Maximilian Hopfgartner (born November 20, 1992 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian basketball player . He currently plays for the Bundesliga club BK Klosterneuburg .

career

Hopfgartner left his hometown club BBU Salzburg as a teenager and went to the United States, where he first attended Bowling Green High School in Ohio from 2009 and then Gilbert High School in Iowa . After graduating from high school in 2011, he went to John Brown University, majored in renewable energies at Arkansas University and played for the college's basketball team in the NAIA college league . He achieved his best statistical values ​​for “JBU” in his fourth and final season 2014/15: Hopfgartner recorded an average of 17.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

After the end of his college career in the USA, the Salzburg native returned to Europe. He received offers from the Admiral Basketball Bundesliga and also from the second German division 2. Bundesliga ProA , but decided to make his first experiences as a professional player in Spain. He played for third division team Xuven Cambados in Galicia in the 2015/16 season and achieved averages of 10.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 26 missions.

For the 2016/17 season, Hopfgartner moved to Planasa Navarra de Pamplona within the third Spanish division. At the beginning of August 2017, he was signed by the Spanish second division club Baloncesto Ciudad de Valladolid . In 35 games this season he scored an average of four points and 1.5 rebounds for Valladolid. In the summer break of 2018, he returned to his home country and signed a contract with Bundesliga club BK Klosterneuburg .

National team

Hopfgartner took part with the Austrian U16 national team in the European Championships (B group) in Sarajevo in 2008, and in 2012 he played in the U20 European B Championships in Sofia. In 2013 he was part of the men's national team for the first time .
