Maximilian Johannes Jakob von Sickingen (* July 25, 1714 ; † June 3, 1795 in Würzburg ) was a baron and cathedral capitular of the Würzburg bishopric and 21st provost of the Comburg knight's monastery .

Origin and family

He came from the south-west German noble family von Sickingen and was born as the son of the Electoral Palatinate Minister and Colonel Chamberlain Johann Ferdinand von Sickingen , the nephew of the Elector of Mainz Karl Heinrich von Metternich-Winneburg († 1679), and his wife Maria Sidonie Philippine nee. Kottwitz von Aulenbach (* 1679). The father's great-grandfather Schweickard von Sickingen (1570–1646) was the great-grandson of the famous knight Franz von Sickingen (1481–1523).

Life

Baron von Sickingen entered the clergy. On July 10, 1728 he was sworn up as the Würzburg canon , succeeding the late Franz Georg Faust von Stromberg (1666–1728). On June 9, 1756, he was promoted to the position of cathedral capitular and later cathedral cantor . The prince-bishop also appointed Sickingen chief customs officer in Würzburg and awarded him the dignity of a secret council . In addition, he had benefices as a capitular at the St. Alban Abbey in Mainz and at the Comburg Knight Abbey . From May 18, 1780 until his death, Maximilian Johannes Jakob von Sickingen was the 21st provost of Comburg Abbey. There he had the altar of St. John Nepomuk built in the associated church of St. Nicholas (1767), which bears his coat of arms on the canopy.

He died in Würzburg in 1795 and was buried here in the cathedral cloister; the grave slab is preserved.

The older brother Carl Anton Joseph Johann Damian von Sickingen (1702–1785) married Maria Antonia Charlotte, Countess von Seinsheim (1711–1747), the sister of the Würzburg prince-bishop Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim . Therefore Maximilian Johannes Jakob von Sickingen was listed as a relative at his funeral conduct in 1779 .

Joseph Karl Ferdinand Friedrich Franz Anton von Sickingen (1708–1787), another brother, married Maria Charlotte Amalia von Hacke, daughter of the Palatine Oberstforst- and Oberstjägermeister Ludwig Anton von Hacke (1682–1752).

The sister Maria Johanna Amalia von Sickingen (1716–1740) allied herself in 1737 with Count Johann Alexander von Rottenhan (1710–1791), prince-bishop of Bamberg, chief steward, privy councilor and senior bailiff. The lawyer Heinrich Franz von Rottenhan (1738–1809) emerged from the marriage, as did his brother Heinrich Karl Wilhelm Graf von Rottenhan (1739–1800), cathedral capitular in Würzburg and provost of the St. Burkard monastery .
