Maximilian von Pelkhoven

Maximilian Freiherr von Pelkhoven (born November 25, 1796 in Straubing , † September 13, 1864 in Munich ) was a Bavarian lawyer and state councilor.

Life

Maximilian's father was Johann Nepomuk Freiherr von Pelkhoven on Teising and Grafing and his mother was Maria Theresia Freiin von Geböckh on Arnbach and Sulzemoos. In 1814 he graduated from the royal grammar school in Munich (today Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich ), then completed the compulsory basic course (= philosophy) and then law studies at the University of Landshut . In 1821 he began his professional career as a lawyer in Passau and Straubing. In 1824 he became city assessor in Aschaffenburg and in 1826 in Würzburg. In 1828 he became a city judge in Passau and in 1838 a judge of appeal in Aschaffenburg.

In 1830 he married Aloysia Pummerer who died in 1835. His second marriage to Anna Freiin von Hertling in 1839 also ended in 1844 with the death of his wife.

In 1844 he became a senior appellate judge and director of the court in Passau. In 1846 King Ludwig I appointed him to Munich as a State Councilor. In 1855 he worked on the draft of the civil code and temporarily headed the State Ministry of Justice, Commerce and Foreign Affairs. He was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament in the Kingdom of Bavaria in the 9th electoral period (1855-1858).

For many years Max von Pelkhoven was the closest confidante, advisor and pen pal of Antonia Werr , the founder of the Zell sisters .

He was the uncle of the painter Wilhelm Marc and a distant relative of the famous painter and expressionist Franz Marc .
