Maximos Salloum
Maximos Salloum (born December 2, 1920 in Yaroun , Lebanon , † October 28, 2004 ) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Akka in Israel from 1975 to 1997 . The bishopric is in Haifa .
Life
He was ordained a priest on July 20, 1946 and was made Archbishop of Akka, Haifa, Nazareth and all of Galilee on August 20, 1975 . He succeeded Archbishop Joseph-Marie Raya . The ordination was performed on September 14, 1975 by the Patriarch of Antioch Archbishop Maximos V. Hakim . Archbishops Georges Haddad von Tire and Joseph Elias Tawil von Newton ( USA ) assisted as co-consecrators . In 1982 Salloum made the Madonna Church in Haifa, built in 1862, available to the founders of a social institution; today the “House of Grace” is located there. On July 23, 1997, the archbishop retired and was old archbishop of Akka until his death . He was succeeded by Archbishop Pierre Mouallem .
