After a daring mission, the criminal investigator Alex Tanner has to find out from his wife Julia that she is having an affair with Karl and wants to get a divorce. Alex is pulled from under his feet and he is forced to move in with his younger brother Tommi, a journalist. Tommi wants to cheer up his brother and goes with him through the city bars of Vienna. But after going to a bar, Tommi is gunned down in the street. Alex immediately takes him to the hospital, making sure the shot was aimed at him. The doctor Rita fights for Tommi's life, but Tommi falls into a coma. Rita finds out that Tommi was poisoned by drugs. She and her team fight for Tommi's life while Alex tries to find out who poisoned his brother. But then events roll over and Alex knows that he can only save Tommi's life if he solves the case.
Production and broadcast
In November 2012, RTL commissioned the production of a pilot film entitled Medcrimes . The pilot film is intended to combine the two genres of crime and medical. The main role went to Simon Böer . The shooting took place from November 13th to December 14th 2012 in Vienna and the surrounding area.
The film is to be shown on May 2, 2013 in prime time on RTL under the title Medcrimes - Side Effect Murder . The film was previously broadcast on ORF eins on April 24, 2013 .

“It all looks the way it sounds: relatively arbitrary and has been there more than once. It remains questionable whether "Medcrimes" will really resonate with the audience. A triangular constellation, brawls and a few explosions alone do not make a popular series. For this, the action element either has to be really complex - the recipe for success of "Alarm für Cobra 11" - or the characters have to give a lot more. "
“The worldwide success of" Dr. House "is based not least on the criminalistic tension of the series: Before he can cure his patients, the doctor has to find the cause of their illness. "Medcrimes" is also about life and death. The fact that the first patient is the brother of the main character is just one of several voltage boosters. (...) The script (Maja and Wolfgang Brandstetter) cleverly combines the crime thriller with a romance: Alex, who has just come out of the door, comforts himself with Rita, which in turn is not right for his wife (Adina Vetter). Since both women are extremely attractive and also convince in terms of their performance, Alex's turmoil is easy to understand. As a sarcastic single doctor, Julia Maria Köhler also has nasty dialogues. Of course, the action is not neglected either. The film begins with a shooting in a night club, and since it later turns out that the Serbian mafia is behind Tommi's illness, this is not the last shooting of the film. Director Peter Ladkani presents Vienna as a glittering metropolis and stages action and romance in his feature film debut that are equally worth seeing; Simon Böer cuts a fine figure on both levels. The fact that Alex rushes to the finals freshly operated on is completely unbelievable. It is also strange that apparently not a single Austrian is involved; the film has been consistently defunct; the locals have apparently been dubbed. The potential for a series, on the other hand, is obvious; but then definitely with both leading actresses. "
