Media ambassador China-Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Media Ambassador China - Germany is a scholarship program for journalists that was launched in 2008 by the Robert Bosch Foundation under the patronage of the then Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier .

Every year the foundation awards sixteen scholarships to young Chinese and German journalists in cooperation with the International Media Center Hamburg (IMCH) of the University of Hamburg . The journalists initially receive a one-month course at the International Media Center Hamburg or the Tsinghua University in Beijing. They then sit in on the media (print, online, television and radio) of the respective host country for two months. At the same time, they have the opportunity to report as temporary correspondents for their home media. The participants in the program receive a monthly grant of 1200 euros. The program language is English.

Previous cooperation partners on the Chinese side were u. a. the news agency Xinhua , the daily newspapers China Daily and Global Times , the business magazines Caixin and Caijing as well as the radio companies China Central Television , Radio China International and Shanghai Media Group . The German media that have hosted Chinese guest journalists include the weekly Die Zeit , the newspapers Financial Times Deutschland , Handelsblatt and Bild , the magazines Manager Magazin , Geo and Gala , the online media Spiegel Online , stern.de and bild.de , as well as the TV channels NDR , DW-TV and RTL .

The aim of the program is to provide young journalists with broader knowledge about the respective host country and, in particular, its media system. The personal experience of the scholarship holders on site should enable a deeper understanding of the host country and thus promote international understanding between China and Germany.

Since 2007 the foundation has been promoting German-Chinese relations as its own focus.

In 2011, Chinese and German alumni of the media ambassador program founded the German-Chinese media network.
