Medifoxamine is a drug that was used to treat depression before it was withdrawn from the market . It acts as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor and as an agonist at the 5HT 2A and 5HT 2C receptors . The Merck - daughter Lipha sales medifoxamine as part of a drug under the trade name Cledial .

Medifoxamine was mainly used in France . It was withdrawn from the market in 1999 because of rare but severe cases of liver damage .
