The Mega Express is a car ferry that is in the service of Corsica Ferries .

history

The ferry was built at Cantieri Naval Fratelli Orlando in Livorno and laid down on May 25, 1999. The launch took place on March 25, 2000. On March 29, 2001 the ship was delivered to Tourship Italia SpA and started sailing under the Italian flag with its home port of Genoa. Since April 2, 2001, it has been in service on the Ajaccio - Toulon and Ajaccio - Bastia routes.

Sister ships

The Mega Express has a sister ship, the Mega Express Two . The two sister ships are the only newbuildings of the Corsica Ferries ferry company. Both run between the French mainland, Corsica , Sardinia and Sicily .

Technical specifications

The Mega Express is designed to work like its sister ship so that it can run on the day as fast ferry and at night as a cruise ferry. In order to be able to pick up the cars or trucks, it has a front and two tailgate .

What is new compared to older ferries is the large number of restaurants and bars, and the traditional sloping "Mega Express stern" with the striking staircase is also noteworthy.

The underwater hull is based on a bulbous bow system and a conventional stern with two propellers and two oars.
