Mehmet Bogujevci

Mehmet Bogujevci (born May 3, 1951 ) is a former Yugoslavian amateur boxer, vice world champion in the light welterweight division of 1978, winner of the Mediterranean Games in 1979 and Olympic participant in 1980.

Boxing career

Bogujevci started initially for the boxing department of FK Spartak Subotica , later for Radnički Priština and played a total of well over 300 fights. He was 1967 Yugoslav junior light flyweight champion and 1968 Yugoslav junior flyweight champion.

In 1977 he was Yugoslavian light welterweight champion and started in June of the same year in light welterweight at the European Championships in Halle (Saale) , where he won a bronze medal; he was in the semifinals with 2: 3 judges' votes against Ulrich Beyer inferior. In November 1977 he won another bronze medal at the 1st Feliks Stamm tournament in Warsaw . In February 1978 he won silver at the 16th Oscar tournament in Belgrade .

His greatest success was in February 1978 in the light welterweight division, at the World Championships in Belgrade . He defeated the Romanian Simion Cuțov (4: 1) in the second round , the Poland Bogdan Gajda (4: 1) in the quarter-finals and Karl-Heinz Krüger from the GDR (3: 2) in the semi-finals . Only in the final did he have to admit defeat to Valery Lvov from the Soviet Union (0: 5) and thus ended up in second place. In September 1979 he won the welterweight gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in Split .

In August 1980 he represented Yugoslavia welterweight at the Summer Olympics in Moscow , where he defeated Mohamed Al Moukdad from Lebanon (5-0) in the preliminary round and Michael Pillay from Seychelles (knockout) in the round of 16, before he was in Lost in the quarterfinals against John Mugabi from Uganda.
