More is a district of the municipality of Kranenburg in the Kleve district , North Rhine-Westphalia . The village has about 500 inhabitants (as of 2018). More was incorporated into Kranenburg on July 1, 1969. It takes its name from an inland lake that was drained in the 13th century. The embankments are still visible to the left and right of the Tutweg.

history

The oldest written mention of Mehr comes from the year 720/21. In the Middle Ages and in the early modern period, Mehr belonged to the office of Düffel , which first belonged to the county of Geldern and later to the county of Kleve .

On July 1, 1969, Mehr was incorporated into Kranenburg. Since the connection to the sewer system in 1995, new building sites have been designated.

school

There was already a school in Mehr in the 17th century. A classroom with teachers' apartments was built in 1909, and additional classrooms were added in 1961. Today the club house “Alte Schule Mehr” and the parish hall are located there.

Attractions

St. Martinus Church

The Martinus parish church was mentioned in a document in 1290. Most of the structure dates from the 15th century, only the two lower floors of the tower are older. Structural extensions to the church were made in the 19th century. The parish was merged with St. Antonius Abbas Nütterden in 2005 .

Windmill

The Mehrer Mühle was built around 1840. Until the destruction in World War II , she still milled with wind power. In 1971 it was set up for youth vacation stays, but has been privately owned for several years and is used as a residential building.

House Zelem

The structure of the house Zelem (also written Zelhem) dates from the 15th century.
