history

The windmill on the Frasselter Berg during the First World War

Archaeological finds show that the Frasselt area was already settled in Franconian times. In the course of the Middle Ages the area had to be forested again, because in 1297 the name "Vraslo" referred to part of the imperial forest . This settlement was first mentioned in a document in Geldrian sources in 1343/44 ("apud Vraetsen in nemore imperiali"), in Klevian sources it was not until around 1371/78 "ter Vrasant".

Frasselt was created in the 14th century as a Klevian-Geldrian double clearing . The place was created as a Waldhufendorf on the northern edge of the Reichswald. A windmill built shortly after 1800 on the Frasselter Berg was demolished in 1920. The parish church of St. Antonius was built in 1860–1862 - a simple neo-Gothic building with wall paintings on the inside.

The church tower, which was blown up by German troops in 1944, was rebuilt after the Second World War . The battle in the Reichswald took place in February 1945 in the nearby Klever Reichswald and in the vicinity of the village . Then the Allies were able to build a bridgehead over the Rhine near Wesel and thus take the Ruhr area.
