Anhalt milestone in Ballenstedt

The 11-mile stone in Ballenstedt is a small monument in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

Similar to the neighboring 10-mile stone , the 11-mile stone has not been preserved at the original location, but was later brought to the Chausseehaus in Ballenstedt . The 80 centimeter high and 40 centimeter wide Anhalt milestone was either on the road between Ballenstedt and Gernrode or on the road to Alexisbad . When it was brought to Ballenstedt is not entirely clear, but it is believed that this happened with the expansion of Alexanderstraße in 1926. Historically, it would have stood on today's federal highway 185 , which leads here from Dessau.

Here, on the corner of Alte Kreipe and Quedlinburger Strasse, it was probably only erected like its neighbor in 1992. The inscription was also repainted. It is XI miles from Dessau . The Anhalt Mile followed the Prussian Mile and was 7.532 kilometers long. The stone was therefore 82.8 kilometers from the state capital. Today it is under monument protection and is registered in the monument register with the number 094 50354.
