Milestone (Ammendorf)

Whole milestone in Halle-Ammendorf, February 2019

The whole milestone in Ammendorf in Halle (Saale) is a historical distance stone that indicates the distance in Prussian miles . It is a listed building as milestones in Saxony-Anhalt are both traffic and legal monuments. The obelisk is now a few meters to the north on Merseburger Strasse ( B 91 ) south of the Elsterbrücke. It was built here in the course of the road construction from Halle (Saale) to Weißenfels in 1819, for which a dam had to be led through the Saale-Elster-Aue .

It is a few centimeters higher than the other full mile obelisks on the road, but not as high as the whole milestone in Merseburg . Like Ammendorf, Halle was part of the Prussian government district of Merseburg . The milestone indicates the distances to Merseburg (1 mile), Weißenfels (3 3/8 miles) and Berlin (23 miles) and thus refers to the Chaussee Berlin – Kassel, from which the road branches off at the Steintor in Halle. There was the all-mile obelisk "Berlin 22 Miles" on Berliner Strasse. A Prussian mile corresponds to 7.532 kilometers.

In the monument list the milestone is below the detection number 094 96946 as a small monument listed. In 2016 the badly damaged milestone was dismantled, renovated and returned to its original state, which includes a slab with a Prussian eagle and benches on both sides.

The closest milestone locations are all historical, as both the quarter milestone in Schkopau's north and all the milestones between Ammendorf and Steintor no longer exist. In the further course of the street, however, the half-mile stone in Schkopau and the whole mile-stone in Merseburg and, at a secondary location ( Moritzburg ), the half-mile stone from Merseburger Strasse in Halle.
