The Meinel Brau is a medium-sized private brewery and distillery in the town of Hof in Bavaria . The annual output of beer is 20,000 hectoliters.
history
The Meinel family's brewing and licensing rights in Hof have been documented since 1731. The parent company is the Vorstadt 13 estate, today 's Meinels-Bas brewery restaurant . The name comes from Kunigunda Barbara Meinel (1790–1863), who is popularly known because of her affable nature "Meinels Bas" (Bas is short for Base = cousin) and who served her beer in the local pub. In 1902 Georg Meinel built his own brewhouse with associated fermentation and storage cellars at the current location on Alte Plauener Straße, which essentially corresponds to the current appearance of the brewery. In 1914 additional wagon sheds were built in the yard. The location at the foot of the rock in the Theresienstein public park earned it the title of Brewery at the Parka. Of the once many Hofer breweries, the Meinel-Bräu is the last one left in family hands. It is currently run by the sisters Gisela and Monika Meinel-Hansen in the 13th generation.
