Meir Stern

Meir Stern (* before 1661 in Frankfurt am Main , † 1680 in Niederursel ) was a German rabbi and Kabbalist .

Life

Stern was married to Tamara, the daughter of the Frankfurt rabbi Mendel Bass , and after her death to her sister Jutlen, with whom he had a son, Mendel Stern . In 1661 he was adjudicator of the rabbinate in Frankfurt am Main, went to Vienna in 1662 and was then called to Fulda as a rabbi . After the expulsion of the Jews from Fulda, he became a rabbi in Amsterdam in 1677 . He died in Niederursel in 1680 on a trip to Krakow , where he was appointed rector of the university.

Meir Stern knew a lot about Kabbalah and taught Christian Knorr von Rosenroth in it . He also taught some Christians the Hebrew language. In Vienna he worked with the Kabbalist Jakob Temerls . Stern helped in Amsterdam to review the Bible translations by Jekutiel Blitz and Josel Witzenhausen .
