Live and act
In 1618 Cornaeus entered the Jesuit order , during the Thirty Years War he fled to France from the invading Swedes. He taught philosophy at the Jesuit religious school in Toulouse for seven years. After his return he was professor for dogmatics and controversial theology in Mainz and Würzburg . From 1659 to 1662 he headed the colleges in Würzburg as rector and in 1664 in Mainz. In both cities he also worked as a cathedral preacher . In the ecclesiastical political dispute about the restitution of church property (in the dioceses and abbeys occupied by Protestants ), he and his friar Heinrich Wangnereck represented the church direction. In 27 controversial writings he fought Protestants (here in particular Johann Georg Dorsche in Strasbourg ) and his friar Johann Vervaux (1586–1661; Munich confessor), who, in view of the weakened situation of the Catholic powers, represented a moderate church policy.
