Dorsche was a leading proponent of Lutheran Orthodoxy in the 17th century. So he participated on the Lutheran side in the syncretistic dispute against the Irenik of Georg Calixt . As a controversial theologian, he stood on the basis of the concord formula and sought to enforce and secure it against internal and external resistance. However, he also tried to defend Johann Arndt as orthodox, and thus influenced Philipp Jakob Spener .
He led a dispute with the Jesuits Melchior Cornäus and Heinrich Wangnereck over the question of the restitution of Catholic property (dioceses and abbeys) in Protestant areas. His treatise Mysaria Missae ( On the Abomination of Mass , 1624) was published three times during his lifetime.
