Volkan Melendiz (born June 14, 1982 in Berlin ) is a pop musician who grew up in the Berlin district of Neukölln , who had a hit both as a solo artist and as one half of the Bassturk duo .
Life
Melendiz was born to Turkish parents as one of three siblings in Germany. At the age of ten he started composing his own songs. After graduating from high school , he began studying mathematics at the TU Berlin .
Artistic work
As a musician, Melendiz achieved a certain degree of fame both as a solo artist and within the Bassturk duo. In both contexts, albums were announced that had not yet been released by the end of 2009.
As a solo artist
His English-language song Fuck You All, based on the tune of Habanera by Georges Bizet, was published in 2004 and was in the Top Twenty in Germany , Austria and Switzerland and has appeared on numerous hit samplers. Initially, the major publishing label assumed that Melendiz was an "American from the vicinity of Jay-Z and P. Diddy ". The Fuck You All video ran on music television and youth magazines such as BRAVO reported on the newcomer . Two more English-language publications followed. However, there was no commercial success.
With Bassturk
As Duo Bassturk, Melendiz had another success in 2006 together with his friend Tamer Uygunsözlü, now in German and Turkish . Yana Yana , a mixture of Turkish pop, rap and R&B , also appeared on a Bravo hit sampler in Switzerland. The duo appeared on several German television and radio broadcasts. You could also be seen as the opening act at German concerts of the Turkish stars Gülşen and Mustafa Sandal and at the Turkish Day in Berlin in 2006.
