Melissa A. Hart (born April 4, 1962 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American politician . Between 2001 and 2007 she represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Melissa Hart attended North Allegheny High School and then until 1984 Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. After completing a law degree at the University of Pittsburgh and being admitted to the bar in 1987, she began working in this profession. She worked as a real estate law specialist for a law firm in Pittsburgh. At the same time, she embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1991 and 2000 she was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . There she temporarily headed the finance committee.

In the 2000 congressional elections , Hart was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Pennsylvania , where she succeeded Democrat Ron Klink on January 3, 2001 . After two re-elections, she was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2007 . The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place during this period . In 2006, she lost 48:52 percent of the vote to Jason Altmire .

In the 2008 election she was again subject to Altmire. In 2012, she sought a return to the Pennsylvania Senate; she failed in her party's primary elections. Today Melissa Hart works for a large law firm.
