Klara Melissa Kössler (born March 4, 2000 in Potsdam ) is a German soccer player .

Career

Kössler has played for the 1st FFC Turbine Potsdam since 2006 and went through various youth teams there until 2017. With the B-Juniors she won the German championship in both 2015 and 2016 . In 2017 she reached the final with the team, in which they lost 1: 2 to FC Bayern Munich . In 2016/17, in addition to her appearances for the B-Juniors, she also played in 15 league games for the second women's team in the 2nd Bundesliga North . For the 2017/18 season she signed a two-year contract for the Bundesliga team, but initially continued to play for the second team. Her debut in a competitive first-team game followed on April 15, 2018 in the DFB Cup semi-final, which was lost 3-1 against FC Bayern Munich, with her substitution for Anna Gasper in the 60th minute. She finally made her Bundesliga debut three days later, on April 18, 2018 (14th matchday), when she was in the starting line-up in the 1-0 home win against SC Freiburg and was substituted for Wibke Meister in the 72nd minute .

In the summer of 2019 she moved to the University of Massachusetts Amherst to the Umass Minutewomen in the USA for a dual career combining studies and football . However, she returned after only a year.

National team

Kössler made his debut on May 12, 2016 in the 3-1 victory of the U-16 national team against Austria in the national jersey and was then part of the U-17 national team . With this team, she qualified for the European Championship in the Czech Republic in 2017 . In the penalty shootout in the final game against Spain, she converted the decisive penalty to 3-1, which meant winning the European championship. With three goals she was also the top scorer of the tournament. Since 2017 she has been part of the U-19 national team , with which she qualified for the European vintage championships in Switzerland in 2018 , where she became vice European champion after a 0-1 final defeat against Spain. As in the U-17 European Championship the year before, Kössler played in all five tournament games.

Kössler's brother Max plays for the OSC Potsdam in the German Water Polo League .

Her goal during the U19 European Championship 2019 for the interim 3-0 in the group match against Belgium on July 19 in the 53rd minute, when she defeated the Belgian goalkeeper with a long-range shot, was nominated for the Goal of the Month for July 2019. In the vote, she took second place with almost 24% of the votes behind Aaron Opoku , whose goal received around 37% of the votes.
