Melitón Hernández (born October 15, 1982 in Veracruz , Veracruz ), also known by the nickname El Wawis , is a Mexican football player on the position of goalkeeper .
Life
"El Wawis" began his career as an adult player at the age of 17 with the fourth division club Huracán de Tlapacoyan.
He was then committed by CF Pachuca , for which he was first used on October 26, 2003 in a game of the first division that ended with a 2-1 away win for the Tuzos at Santos Laguna . At the end of the same half-season , the Apertura 2003 , El Wawis was part of the Tuzos championship squad for the first time and was able to repeat this triumph a few years later when he won another championship title with Pachuca in the 2007 Clausura . But overall he played only six first division appearances for the Tuzos and could not prevail at Pachuca, so that he was loaned out more often to teams in the second division , where he was regularly used. Among other things, he was the goalkeeper of the Albinegros de Orizaba , who played in the second division between January 2009 and the summer of 2011 and were coached by the two-time World Cup participant Cristóbal Ortega .
After their withdrawal from the league, Hernández played on loan for Club León , with whom he managed to return to the first division on May 12, 2012 by a 5-0 win against the UAT Correcaminos after ten years of absence from the Esmeraldas.
Before the 2013/14 season he was signed by the Tiburones Rojos Veracruz , in whose ranks he not only developed into a top goalkeeper for the first time in his career, but also made the leap into the Mexican national team, for which he played in the international matches against Paraguay (1-0) on March 31, 2015 and Guatemala (3-0) on May 30, 2015. As the third goalkeeper, he was also part of the Mexican squad at the 2015 Copa America , but was not used there.
