tourism

Mellbystrand has been a popular west coast holiday destination for Swedes and foreigners since the 19th century. In 2003/2004 there were around 2,900 holiday homes in the vicinity of Mellbystrands.

particularities

Together with the neighboring village of Skummeslövsstrand , Mellbystrand has the longest continuous sandy beach in Sweden with a length of 12 km. The beach is divided into zones to make it easier to find berths that have been abandoned. There is a 300 m long section where dog owners are allowed to bathe their animals (otherwise strictly prohibited), and a nudist section in the northern part, near the mouth of the Lagan. The stretch of beach beyond the mouth of the Lagan is popular with kite surfers.
