Geography and facts
Melville is east of the Crazy Mountains and west of Route 191 in northern Sweet Grass County north of the city of Big Timber , the county seat of Sweet Grass Counties.

Melville Lutheran Church
Evangelical Lutheran immigrants from Norway founded the first Lutheran congregation in Montana in Melville in 1885, and the associated cemetery was consecrated on November 8, 1885. In November 1914, the church, the Melville Lutheran Church , was finally consecrated . It can also be seen in the film The Horse Whisperer as a location.
Triva
The Big Sky Corners rest house in Melville on Route 191 is featured in the 1998 film The Horse Whisperer starring Robert Redford . In one scene, Redford uses the phone booth in front of the rest house.
