With M 115 called Daimler-Benz a series of four-cylinder - line engines . The gasoline engines with a displacement of 2.0 to 2.3 liters were used in the Mercedes-Benz 200/220 / 230.4 ( W 115 , "Strich-Acht", up to 1976) and 200/230 ( W 123 , from 1976), the off-road vehicle 230 G (W 460, 1979 to 1985) and the Mercedes-Benz vans 408/409 ( T 2  - "Düsseldorfer Transporter", from 1968) and 208/308 ( T 1  - "Bremer Transporter", from 1977) used.

The engine is a slightly modified successor of M 121 and how this a countercurrent cylinder head from an aluminum alloy and a five bearings crankshaft in an engine block made of cast iron . The overhead camshaft ( overhead camshaft ) is of a roller chain driven and actuated via rocker arms two valves per cylinder . In 1980, the M 115 in the Mercedes 200/230 of the W 123 passenger car series was replaced by the newly developed M 102 with a cross-flow cylinder head .
