Merel Freriks (born January 6, 1998 ) is a Dutch handball player who belongs to the squad of the Dutch national team.

Career

Merel Freriks started playing handball at the HV Borger. In 2010 the cyclist switched to E&O. After Freriks played for the E&O women's team in the top Dutch league, she moved to the German Bundesliga club HSG Bensheim / Auerbach in the summer of 2017 . She has been under contract with league rivals Borussia Dortmund since the 2019/20 season .

Freriks initially played for the Dutch youth and junior national team. With these teams she took part in the U-17 European Championship in 2015 , in the U-19 European Championship in 2017 and in the U-20 World Championship in 2018 . On October 28, 2017, she made her debut for the Dutch national team. With the Dutch selection, she won the bronze medal at the European Championships in 2018 . During the tournament she scored a total of seven goals. At the 2019 World Cup , she won the World Cup title in the final against the Spanish selection.
