Merremia cissoides is a plant type from the genus Merremia from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in America and the West Indies .

description

Merremia cissoides is a herbaceous climber whose stems are bristly-tomentose with short, partially sloping trichomes . The leaves have long stalks , the leaf blade is divided into five elliptical to lanceolate, mostly 2 to 4.5 cm long partial leaves. The leaflets are short stalked, pointed or tapered, weakly serrated or with entire margins. The leaf surfaces are sticky-hairy or balding.

The flowers are usually too few in zymose , axillary inflorescences that are about the same length as the leaves. Only rarely do the flowers stand individually. The buds are pointed. The sepals are 10 to 15 cm long, egg-shaped or lanceolate-egg-shaped, long pointed, foliage-like and sticky hairy. The crown is white and 2 to 3 cm long. The ovary is hairless and three- or four-chambered.

The fruits are wide capsules that contain black, hairy seeds .

distribution

The species is distributed from Mexico via Guatemala , British Honduras , El Salvador and Costa Rica to South America, and is also found in the West Indies . It grows in thickets and waste dumps at altitudes below 1800 m.
