The Meesenburg
The "Meesenburg" castle was probably built on the Meesenkopf by Count Otto I von Tecklenburg (1209–1263). This Mecklenburg castle was conquered and destroyed by the Minden Bishop Konrad I von Rüdenberg in a joint military operation with the Diocese of Osnabrück . Allegedly, the fortification on the Meesenkopf is said to have been removed around 1216 at the instigation of Minden Bishop Konrad. The stones were used for the construction of the St. Andreas Church in Lübbecke, according to the more recent bishops' chronicles. Today only the ramparts and the moat can be seen of the castle.
