Methacholine is a drug from the group of muscarinic receptor agonists. Methacholine is used in a lung provocation test called the methacholine test , and thus plays a role in the diagnosis of bronchial asthma .

Methacholine is broken down more slowly by cholinesterases than acetylcholine .
