The metropolitan region of Belém ( RMB ), in Portuguese Região Metropolitana de Belém , also known as Grande Belém or Greater Belém , is a metropolitan region in the Brazilian state of Pará . It was established by law on June 8, 1973 and has its seat in the city of Belém . It consists of the seven cities of Ananindeua , Belém, Benevides , Castanhal , Marituba , Santa Bárbara do Pará and Santa Izabel do Pará . The legislation was changed in 1995, 2010 and 2011.
Demographics and Expansion
With an area of 3,565.8 km² it had a population of 2,505,242 inhabitants (July 2019 estimate), which corresponds to a population density of 702.6 inhabitants per km².
