The brook rises about 700 m east of Ölbronn-Dürrn at 253  m above sea level. NHN in the Metten and Gründelbach lowlands nature reserve . Flowing in predominantly eastward directions, it takes on the Gründelbach after about half of the flow path . Without any further tributaries, the Mettenbach flows into the Erlenbach on the left at an altitude of 235 m. With a height difference of 18 m, the mean bed slope is 8.1 ‰.
