Mexican Kids - Temporada de patos (Spanish original title: Temporada de patos ) is a Mexican film that was first shown in 2004. The screenplay is by Fernando Eimbcke , who also directed led.

After being shown with great success at national and international film festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival , it was sold to film distributors in six European countries. The film received positive reviews at all of these festivals. Directors such as Alfonso Cuarón ( Y tu mamá también ) and Guillermo del Toro ( Hellboy ) also praised him. In Germany, Eimbcke's debut feature film was first broadcast on ARTE on September 23, 2009 .

The film is shot in black and white and takes place for the most part in one place, an old apartment.

action

Two 14-year-old youth who in the quarter Tlatelolco in City Mexico live, are preparing to spend a Sunday alone in an apartment, with video games, comics and a pizza. Because of a power outage, their plans change abruptly. A 16-year-old neighbor comes by asking to be allowed to use the oven, as well as a pizza delivery boy who has an argument with them about the waiting time for the pizza. The four, stuck in the apartment in an absurd situation, each try to find employment, but eventually they form personal relationships by expressing their inner conflicts.

Flama has to decide which parent he wants to live with after his parents divorce. Moko fears losing his friend Flama, for whom he believes he has deeper feelings. The neighbor is a young girl who is passed over by her family, even on her birthday. The pizza delivery guy is doing a frustrating job so he can help his family.

About the title

The title of the film (literal translation: duck season ) refers to a picture that hangs in the living room of the apartment. It shows a couple of ducks flying over a lake. When he sees the picture, the pizza delivery guy tells the others that ducks fly in a V-shaped formation to support each other as they fly through the air and regularly change their position within the formation so as not to tire.

There is another explanation for the film title. According to this statement, the title has something to do with the popular saying "El pato tirándole a las escopetas" ("The ducks are shooting at the shotguns"), which refers to the fact that the characters in the film are the authority figures in their lives (parents and Supervisors).

Reviews

“Mexican debut film, which is reminiscent of Jim Jarmusch's early films due to its style and laconic narrative. (OmdU) "
