Michał Żewłakow [ ˈmʲixaw ʒɛvˈwakɔf ] (born April 22, 1976 in Warsaw ) is a former Polish football player and national record player in his country. His twin brother Marcin was also a professional soccer player.
Club career
With the football game he began with the Warsaw clubs Drukarz Warszawa (1987-1992) and Marymont Warszawa (1992-1993). At the age of seventeen he joined Polonia Warszawa in 1993 , and from 1995 to 1998 he played 79 games (four goals) for the capital city club. In the 1995/96 season he was loaned to the lower class club Hutnik Warszawa for the first half of the season. After returning to the second half of the season, he was finally able to prevail and secured a regular place at Polonia.
In 1998, the Pole, who can be used on the left side of defense or in defensive midfield, then moved to Belgium to KSK Beveren . After 24 missions and one goal, he moved within the First Division to Excelsior Mouscron , for which he was active until 2002 and was able to book a total of 94 missions (one goal). He then played for RSC Anderlecht until 2006 , with whom he became Belgian champions in 2004 and 2006. He played a total of 96 games (three goals) for RSC Anderlecht. In 2006 he played for the Greek club Olympiacos Piraeus , with whom he won the Greek championship in 2007, 2008 and 2009, before playing for MKE Ankaragücü in Turkey in the 2010/11 season . In the 2011/12 season Michał Żewłakow moved to Poland to Legia Warsaw . With Legia he was Polish champion in 2013 and two-time Polish cup winner. After the 2012/13 season, he ended his active football career.
National team
Żewłakow played 102 times for the national team of Poland and scored three goals. He was also in Poland's squad at the 2002 World Cup and the 2006 World Cup . He was also in Poland's squad for the 2008 European Championship . On October 10, 2010, he made his 100th international match against the USA , setting the unofficial record for Grzegorz Lato , of whose 100 internationals FIFA no longer recognizes five as A internationals. On October 12th, he set a new record with his 101st international match against Ecuador . Michał Żewłakow completed his 102nd and last international match on March 29, 2011 against Greece .
