Michael Adelbulner
Michael Adelbulner (born February 3, 1702 in Nuremberg ; † July 21, 1779 in Altdorf ) was a German mathematician , physicist and astronomer.
Michael Adelbulner was born as the son of the printer Johann Ernst Adelbulner in Nuremberg. After attending the St. Egidien grammar school in Nuremberg, he went to Leipzig to receive further training in the printing trade he had learned from his father. He also studied humanities and philosophy . After staying in Halle, Magdeburg and Hamburg, he returned to his hometown due to the death of his mother. Once there, he soon studied mathematics and astronomy with Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr and Johann Leonhard Rost . After 4 years of studies, he went to Altdorf University in 1725 to study higher mathematics with Schwarz Humaniora, Johann Heinrich Müller and philosophy with Michael Kelsch .
In 1733, at the suggestion of Anders Celsius, who was traveling through, he began to publish the first specialist astronomical journal, the newsletter for the promotion of astronomy (Commercium litterarium ad astronomiae incrementum) . He was then accepted as a foreign member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences in 1735 .
After the death of his father in 1737 and encouraged by Christoph Jacob Trew and D. Knopf, he sold his father's printing press and went back to Altdorf to study medicine with Jantke and Weiß. In 1738 he received his doctorate in medicine with the thesis Theses medicae physiologico-pathologicae, Pulmonum fabricam, usum, uariaque, quibus affliguntur, incommoda generatim complectentes. In 1741 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
When Altdorf professor Michael Kelsch died in 1742, he became his successor at the Chair of Mathematics.
