In the 2004/05 season he won the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish League Cup with the Rangers .

At the end of the season he was sold to PSV Eindhoven . He was under contract there until January 2007, but was only used irregularly during this time. Ball then returned to Great Britain and signed a contract with Manchester City that ran until the end of the 2008/09 season. In the 2006/07 season , Ball made negative headlines when he deliberately kicked Cristiano Ronaldo, who was lying on the ground, in the stomach on the penultimate day of the derby against Manchester United . He was then banned from the English Football Association for three games. Ball later apologized for the incident.

After a long period without a professional contract, Michael Ball signed a one-year contract with Leicester City on August 8, 2011 . After he published homophobic statements on Twitter on January 23, 2012 , Ball was fired from his club without notice the following day.
