Michael Borgstede

Michael Borgstede (born December 27, 1976 in Thuine ) is a German harpsichordist , journalist and university professor . He lives in Cologne .

Musician

Borgstede received his first piano and organ lessons during his school days. He began his training as a harpsichordist with Esther Morales-Cañadas , which he then continued studying with Jacques Ogg in The Hague . He won the York Early Music Competition and the Ben Weber Award . As a soloist and member of the Ensemble Musica ad Rhenum , he has given concerts in the Concertgebouw , the Wigmore Hall and the Wiener Konzerthaus as well as in the USA, South America and Asia. His interpretations are considered to be well-founded in terms of performance and yet unconventional.

Professional background

A year-long stay in the USA for Borgstede encouraged his inclination to journalism. From 2003 to 2014 he was also the Middle East correspondent for Israel and the Palestinian Territories . Since October 2014 he has been professor for harpsichord and figured bass at the University of Music and Dance Cologne (further information on person and profession in the link).
