Michael Dieterich

Michael Dieterich (born January 13, 1942 in Stuttgart ) is a German professor of educational science , social education and psychotherapy .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a toolmaker at the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, Dieterich studied precision engineering (Dipl.-Ing. FH), then at the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim, physics and chemistry for a higher teaching post . After teaching at vocational schools and grammar schools, he continued his MA and Dr. phil. in the subjects of professional education and psychology. In his dissertation, he developed a test for measuring and promoting professional maturity (HAMET), which is now widely used internationally. After his assistantship at the University of Stuttgart, Dieterich taught from 1982 to 1995 as a university professor for educational sciences (vocational rehabilitation) at the University of Hamburg . After expanding his teaching qualifications for the subject of psychotherapy and teaching at the Friedensau Theological University , he was a professor at the Gustav Siewerth Academy in Weilheim-Bierbronnen as well as scientific director and director of the University Institute for Psychology and Pastoral Care (IPS) in Freudenstadt . Since 2007 he has been professor of psychology and dean of the master's degree in counseling psychology at ETS Freudenstadt together with Lee University in Cleveland (Tennessee) in the USA.

His areas of expertise are personality diagnostics and support diagnostics , general psychotherapy and pastoral care (APS), professional rehabilitation and business consulting with a focus on personality development . Against this background, he heads the Institute for Practical Psychology and Counseling (IPP).

In the private sphere, he and his wife Hilde established the German Society for Biblical Therapeutic Pastoral Care in 1987 , which he headed for 15 years and for which he is still active today as scientific director. In 2001 it was transferred to the BTS Society for Psychology and Pastoral Care . Over 15,000 life and social counselors have been trained there over the past 20 years.

He is the author of over 150 academic publications as well as many magazine articles and books on pastoral topics.
