Michael Dirrigl

Michael Dirrigl (born June 24, 1923 in Neunburg vorm Wald ; † March 20, 2002 in Regensburg ) was a German Germanist, author, historian and educator. He lived in Viergstetten near Nittendorf and was Director of Studies for German and History at the Goethe Gymnasium in Regensburg. In 1949 he received his doctorate in Munich with the title “The intellectual and artistic development of Josef Ruederer ”. He was a member of the Regensburg Writers' Group, Schopenhauer, Schiller, Wilhelm Busch and Theodor Storm societies.

Dirrigl became famous for his standard works on Bavarian history, especially for his extensive biography on Ludwig I of Bavaria. His cultural and intellectual history of Munich was published in 1968 under the title Residence of the Muses .

Awards

  • 1982 - Honorary gift from the Foundation for the Promotion of German Literature.
  • 1988 - Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon, presented by the then Bavarian Minister of Culture, Hans Zehetmair, for his tireless scientific work and his literary contribution to the documentation of Bavarian cultural history.
  • 1991 - Recognition and advancement award of the Bavarian Unification / Bavarian People's Foundation.
