Michael During (also Thuringia ) (born May 30, 1587 in Neustadt Brandenburg ; † May 30, 1618 in Altstadt Brandenburg ) was mayor of the old town, ordained by the cities of Mittelmark , Uckermark and Ruppiner Land .

Live and act

Michael During was born in the Neustadt south of the Havel . He became mayor of the old town on the opposite northern bank of the Havel. Both cities were independent until their unification to form the city of Brandenburg in 1715, with a common high-level jurisdiction . During died in the old town on his 31st birthday and was buried on June 2nd.

During was married to Katharina Zieriss (or Zieritz). The marriage was concluded on May 23, 1603, one week before his sixteenth birthday. His wife was also fifteen years old at the time of the wedding and died like during 1618. The marriage had a son Johann.

In the parish church of St. Gotthardt there is a rich epitaph which is dedicated to the couple Michael During and Katharina Zieriss and represents them. The late Renaissance style epitaph is made of white, partially painted and gilded sandstone . In addition to the pair , it depicts caryatids , masks and putti . The predella is two-story. Among other things, a small angel with an hourglass and a skull is incorporated into it, which illustrates the mortality of humans. The crucifixion of Christ is depicted in the central main picture , in front of which the couple prays kneeling. Michael During on the left, Katharina Zieriss on the right. The upper area shows the resurrection of Jesus Christ . Furthermore, individual images of the family members are attached above the epitaph.
