Michael Efler (born January 3, 1970 in Bassum ) is a German activist and politician ( Die Linke ) and an elected member of the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 .

education

After completing secondary school, Michael Efler completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk. He studied economics and social economics at the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics and received his doctorate from the University of Hamburg in 2005 with a thesis on international investment contracts.

activist

Efler has been working for the Mehr Demokratie association since 1997 , first in the Hamburg regional association, and from 2001 in Berlin. In Hamburg he was involved in organizing a referendum to lower the hurdles for referendums. From 2009 to 2016 he held the office of Federal Board Spokesman at Mehr Demokratie, and he is still a member of the Board of Directors. Among other things, he is involved in the introduction of the European Citizens' Initiative (EBI) in the second EU Convention (“Constitutional Convention”, 2002/2003), at the Berlin Energy Table , in “ Stop TTIP ” protests and the EBI of the same name, which after their non-approval became a “self-organized ECI” by the EU Commission.

Efler was a member of Alliance 90 / The Greens from 1993 to 1999. He joined the Left Party in 2005. In the election for the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 , he received a mandate on the state list of his party. In the left-wing parliamentary group, he is the spokesman for energy and climate policy, democratic policy spokesman and spokesman for animal welfare.
