Michael Fellmann , called "Michi", (born December 20, 1969 in Kempten (Allgäu) ) is a German sailor .

Life

Fellmann first took part in a laser regatta at the age of 12 . At the age of 14 he began sailing as a competitive sport. Between 1986 and 1988 Fellmann was Bavarian youth champion three times in a row and in 1988 German vice youth champion. At the Youth World Cup in Australia in 1988 he finished 10th. In addition to his sporting career, Fellmann completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter between 1985 and 1988 . In 1990 he joined the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Sonthofen and switched to the Olympic boat class Finn-Dinghy .

In this boat class he was fourth at the European Championships in Quiberon in 1990 . In 1994 and 1998 to 2001 he won the title of International German Master. In 2005 he managed to win this title for the sixth time on the Steinhuder Meer against 84 ships. In the 1990s followed two seventh (1995 and 1999), ninth (1998) and tenth (1997) places at the World Championships, and two tenth (1995 and 1996) and fourth places (1999) at the European Championships. In 1996 Fellmann first took part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta . Fellmann qualified for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney .

In 2002 he finished seventh at the World Sailing Championships in Athens , thus securing a starting place for the German Sailing Association for the 2004 Summer Olympics in the same place. He achieved his own qualification with a fourth place at the European Championships in 2003. In the Olympic racing series with eleven rounds held in front of Athens Fellmann could not cope with the conditions at all and finished in 17th place. Michi Fellmann lived in Sulzberg and started for the Bavarian Yacht Club in Starnberg . He is married and has three children.

In 2006 he passed the exam to become a certified trainer at the sports university in Cologne. From July 2006 to September 2011 he worked as a national trainer at the central training base of the German Sailing Association in Kiel-Schilksee , where he was responsible for the disciplines of windsurfing women, laser standard, match race women and the Finn sailors.

Michael Fellmann has been the club manager of the German Touring Yacht Club in Tutzing since the end of 2011 .

On March 1, 2015, Michael Fellmann took up the post of state trainer of the Bavarian Sailing Association , which he ended by mutual agreement with the BSV on March 31, 2017.
