Michael Gathy (born April 22, 1989 ) is a professional Belgian poker player . He is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .

Gathy studied medicine before he started playing poker . He lives in Malta .

Poker career

Career

Gathy plays on the online poker platform PokerStars under the nickname bolivianSWAG . He has been participating in renowned live tournaments since 2011 .

Gathy took second place at the European Short-Handed Poker Championship in Dublin at the end of September 2011 and received his first live prize money of almost 55,000 euros . In mid-December 2011 he won the main event of the Belgian Poker Series in Namur and secured a prize of 175,000 euros. In June 2012 , Gathy was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and prevailed in a tournament variant No Limit Hold'em . For this he received a bracelet and the top prize of 440,000 US dollars . The following year he won a turbo event at the 2013 WSOP and received almost $ 280,000 and his second bracelet . Gathy secured his third bracelet at the 2016 WSOP . He also took two second places and made a total of five money tiers, earning him prize money of more than $ 900,000. Because of these achievements, he finished eighth in the series' Player of the Year Award race.

In total, Gathy has earned more than $ 2.5 million playing poker in live tournaments.
