Michael Geiger (born May 5, 1965 in Haslach im Kinzigtal ) is a German table tennis referee and table tennis official. Since 2015 he has been President of the German Table Tennis Association DTTB .

Michael Geiger started a career as a table tennis referee early on . In 1983 he became association arbitrator, 1995 federal arbitrator, 2002 international arbitrator. In 2004 he successfully completed his training as a Blue Badge referee . This is the highest level of qualification that an international referee can achieve. Michael Geiger was the first German Blue Badge referee and the seventeenth worldwide - there are now over 200 active Blue Badge referees internationally. Geiger has directed the finals at three world championships:

  • Team World Cup 2006 in Bremen - men's final between China and South Korea,
  • Team World Cup 2008 in Guangzhou (China) - men's final between China and South Korea,
  • Individual World Cup 2013 in Paris - women's final between Olympic champion Xiaoxia Li and Shiwen Liu (both from China).

Geiger also directed two finals at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens.

Later he worked in the training of referees.

In 2010 Michael Geiger took over the office of Vice President for Finance at the German Table Tennis Association DTTB . When DTTB President Thomas Weikert resigned on March 10, 2015, Geiger took over his duties on a temporary basis. In November 2015, the DTTB Bundestag unanimously elected him President.

Private

Michael Geiger is married and has two children. He holds a degree in business administration [a graduate of the former “Berufsakademie” (today “Duale Hochschule”) in Villingen-Schwenningen] and earns his living as a tax consultant and auditor.
