official

From 1991 to 1993 Gründahl was chairman of the DTTB sports court. On November 1, 1992 he became Secretary General of the DTTB. He replaced Klaus Weber. In this role he worked on the drafting of the licensed player statute for table tennis players. In June 1994 he was unanimously elected to succeed Hans Wilhelm Gäb as the 9th DTTB President. In 1996 he resigned from this position while he was still at the European Championship. The timing of this resignation was criticized in professional circles because it pushed the successes of the German players into the background. His successor was Hans Giesecke . When he was no longer running because of previous disputes, Gründahl was re-elected President in September 1999. He held this office until June 2005, when he no longer stood as a candidate at the Federal General Assembly of the DTTB. As a reason he gave differences of opinion with the regional association Southwest and differences in the presidium .

At times he was also a member of the court of arbitration in the European Table Tennis Association ETTU .
