Hans Giesecke

Hans Giesecke (born February 15, 1932 in Helmstedt ; † December 29, 2013 in Bremen ) was a German table tennis official . He was President of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

National activities

As an active player, Hans Giesecke played for the TuS Thedinghausen club from 1947 to the 1960s. Early on he devoted himself to functionary duties. In July 1965 he took over the chairmanship of the DTTB referee committee . From 1979 to 1996 he was President of the Lower Saxony Table Tennis Association . In 1981 he became Vice President of the German Table Tennis Federation (DTTB) , in 1996 he took over temporarily to succeed the surprisingly resigned President Walter Gründahl , in March of this year he was unanimously confirmed in this office by the Federal Annual Meeting. Three years later, Giesecke was no longer a candidate.

International tasks

Hans Giesecke also took on various tasks in the world association ITTF . From 1969 to 1985 he was a member and secretary of the ITTF rules committee. In this function he organized training courses in Asia and Africa, where he, as rule pope, introduced the participants to the international rules. In 1985, the ITTF General Assembly elected him treasurer and thus to the three-person presidium. In 1999 the French Pierre Albertini replaced him in this position.

Giesecke acted as referee at several European and World Championships. He was also a member of the National Olympic Committee .

Awards

In 1966 Hans Giesecke was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor from the Lower Saxony Table Tennis Association , ten years later he received the Golden Badge of Honor from the DTTB. In 1996 he became honorary president of this association. On October 9, 1998, the Federal President awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon , and in the following year he became an honorary member of the world association ITTF. After the end of its DTTB presidency, the DTTB created the position of honorary member of the Presidium especially for Giesecke in 2000 ; Giesecke was the first to hold this position and from then on was allowed to attend board meetings. In 2014 he was posthumously included in the Lower Saxony Sports Honor Gallery of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History.

Private

Hans Giesecke was a teacher and head of a police school. He lived in Bremen, was married and the father of two children.
