Michael Lorkowski (born February 26, 1955 in Hamburg ) is a German football coach .
Player career
Lorkowski was active as a player at Phönix Lübeck (1973 to 1977) and BU Hamburg (1977 to 1982).
Coaching career
The greatest success in Lorkowskis' coaching career is winning the 1992 DFB Cup with Hannover 96. The second division team prevailed 7-0 against Marathon Berlin and then twice away against Bundesliga clubs VfL Bochum and Borussia Dortmund before in in the fourth round in the first home game of this DFB Cup, second division competitor Bayer 05 Uerdingen was defeated. With Karlsruher SC in the quarter-finals and Werder Bremen in the semi-finals, two other Bundesliga clubs were defeated in the Lower Saxony stadium, until Hanover was sensationally in the final in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. There the team reached a 0-0 on May 23, 1992 after extra time against Borussia Mönchengladbach , the fifth Bundesliga club in the current competition. In the penalty shoot-out, the underdog finally won 4: 3. After the Kickers Offenbach in the DFB-Pokal 1969/70, Hannover 96 was only the second team below the Bundesliga to win the DFB-Pokal.
Due to a mixed season 1991/92 in the 2nd Bundesliga North , in which the coach was heavily criticized for his defensive tactics over a long period of time, and due to internal quarrels, Lorkowski announced the new season after reaching the cup final in April 1992 to switch to FC St. Pauli . At the Hamburg Millerntor he had already been active as a coach from 1982 to 1986, where he celebrated promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1984 with FC St. Pauli. After his time in Hamburg he worked as a trainer at 1. SC Norderstedt, VfL Osnabrück and Holstein Kiel.
In the 2012/13 season Lorkowski worked for the Schleswig-Holstein club SV Eichede in the youth sector; he trained his class in 1998/99 and was responsible for the technical training of the classes 2001 and 2004.
Since then he has been working in the social project Nestwerk with young people who are difficult to educate as an employee of FC St. Pauli.
