Michael Lysander Fremuth

Michael Lysander Fremuth (* 1979 in Bergheim ) is a German lawyer and human rights expert . He is the Scientific Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights and Professor for Fundamental and Human Rights at the University of Vienna .

biography

Michael Lysander Fremuth studied law at the University of Cologne. He completed a position in the German Bundestag and after his studies worked at the European Commission and the German Mission to the United Nations in New York.

2010 Fremuth was with a thesis on the supranational European Union doctorate . The dissertation was awarded the Cologne University Prize for outstanding scientific achievements. In 2017 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the effects of globalization on the concept of statehood and sovereignty. This was followed by the granting of the venia legendi for the subjects of public law including general state theory as well as international and European law .

Fremuth's teaching and research activities took him to the USA, Russia, South Africa and Turkey. He then taught as a lecturer, professor and visiting professor at the Universities of Bayreuth , Freiburg and Trier and the Free University of Berlin . Fremuth was a co-founder and long-time chairman of the German Society for the United Nations (DGVN) in North Rhine-Westphalia , a member of the national board of the DGVN and worked on the international expert committee of the German section of Amnesty International . He also heads the Working Group on Flight and Migration Law of the German Association for International Law .

Since April 2019, Fremuth has been Professor of Fundamental and Human Rights at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Vienna and Scientific Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights.
