Michael Musyoki (also Mike Musyoki ; born May 28, 1956 ) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner .

Career

He won the silver medals in the 5000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run at the 1978 Pan-African Games in Algiers . He achieved the same result a short time later at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton . His most significant success on the track he achieved at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where he won the bronze medal over 10,000 m behind the Italian Alberto Cova and the British Mike McLeod .

Musyoki was also successful in road running . On September 19, 1982, at the Philadelphia Half Marathon , he set a world record in the half marathon distance of 1:01:36 h , which lasted for a good year. In 1986 Musyoki won the Great North Run . His time of 1:00:43 h was twelve seconds below the world record at the time. However, the course of the run is not suitable for a record due to an impermissible gradient. That same year he finished fourth in the Chicago Marathon .

Michael Musyoki is 1.68 m tall and weighed 54 kg at competition times. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso from 1979 to 1983 .
